As many of you know, Ryan and I recently celebrated 3 YEARS of marriage. Woah baby! Life is a beautiful gift, especially with Ry guy. I wanted to take a minute to talk about something I have been meaning to share for a while now, and it is about picking your wedding photographer.
THIS IS NOT A MARKETING PITCH FOR YOU TO BOOK US AS YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS. This is a plea, to value good photography and to begin to value the importance of booking a photographer that you love, not one that fits in your budget.
When Ryan and I were planning for our wedding day, we looked at one photographer, and we knew as soon as we saw her blog that she was the one that we wanted for our wedding. We didn’t look at any other photographers in the area, and we didn’t price shop. I remember telling Ryan, “This is who I want to document our wedding day. I really can’t imagine anyone else.” And to this day I have NEVER regretted that decision.
Now I understand that sometimes the photographer that you really desire to have document your wedding day is unavailable. Or they are out of your budget. Or they specialize in shooting at specific venues and locations, as they are refining their brand. In that case, don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations. We WANT you to have good photos of your wedding day. So if we are doing our jobs right, we’ll only recommend you to photographers that we trust.
Some questions we encourage you to ask when looking for your wedding photographer are: Do they capture real and raw emotion? Do they capture the in-between moments? Do I FEEL something when I look through their images?
Find a photographer that you love, and don’t send them a Pinterest page of images that you love that other photographers took. You cannot tell another artist to create something that another artist already did. It’s called plagiarism, and it’s mean. Ha! If you find a photographer that you love and trust, sending a Pinterest board is not necessary.
Your wedding day only happens once, so have it documented well. And if it wasn’t, start having the milestones and moments in your life documented well by someone that you DO love. Life is short, but it’s filled with incredible and beautiful moments. Photographs pause time, and they help us relive those moments.
PHOTOGRAPHS ARE IMPORTANT.
Thank you Hannah Nicole, for documenting our wedding so beautifully 3 years ago. We love you forever!
